What better day to post these scholarly photographs than the first day back to school? Summer may be coming to an end but there’s a promise of better outfit days in the Autumn – a crisp blazer never harmed nobody. My outfit here is sophisticated prep school meets transgressive student – fashionably – out of uniform; a look I am all too familiar with. I was forever altering my high school uniform to add some chic to my everyday as a 17 year old. Do I ever wish I could’ve worn these soft jersey sweat shorts back then; rope detail adds a touch of the nautical nose-snub. I colour-blocked with a grey cotton tank from Club Monaco, white blazer from H&M, and Dodo la Parisienne ballet flats (that have been through the ringer this summer). Double band chain ring by Made Her Think available at Kavut.com. What’s a bougie outfit without a Gucci bag? The token stripe means access to the cool kid’s lunch table in the cafeteria. Duh. Speaking of cool kids, big thanks to Alexander Liang for shooting and inspiring these photographs! Read the rest of this entry »
Or should I say, Caroline Sieber von Westenholz? Her recent wedding was featured in the September 2013 issue of Vogue as The Wedding of the Year – look out, Klout score! She is formally referred to as a Chanel brand ambassador and Karl, himself, made her wedding dress. Of course, Laetitia Crahay had a hand at the veil and so on and so forth. Privilege at its apogee. Seriously, I’ve been following her on instagram for a few months now and it’s all St. Tropez to me.
She lives in a castle and dresses as though she had every runway collection at her fingertips. All her clothes look brand new, too. Poppin’ tags. (Never mind tags I swear she drinks champagne for breakfast). Her life is most assuredly a charmed one. Picking street style proved difficult, however, because Caroline sometimes looks too affected, as though the clothes were laid out for her the night before by a Chanel-bot. I tried to select the few outfits that have a bit more movement to them. Something common folk might aspire to, if not dare to imitate whilst feeling ballsy one afternoon in a couture daydream. These days are seemingly fashionable. Sure, I spend my mornings in a bathrobe and accessorize with a large Starbucks coffee mug, one with pink hearts on it, at best. But what the heck, I’ve run through so many blog-worthy outfits without so much as a lingering, self-approving nod in a full length mirror – the one I still have yet to purchase. So here I am in all my glory. Why I love my fox fur coat is its guilt free provenance. A hand-me-down from my aunt (it even has her name stitched in the lining), I don’t have to worry about P.E.T.A. coming after me with a can of Benjamin Moore paint in shade C231, ox blood. I picture me just yelling: “Halt! It’s vintage” to the Jackson Pollock animal lovers. I can say these things, I think, because I’m a vegetarian. Why I love my Ray Ban honeys? They add an extra pop of colour to an otherwise dreary outfit. My boyfriend bought them for me while on a boys trip to Vegas – I hope they too have a guilt free provenance…
