vogue-brazil-2009-october-02

From Brazil, but of Italian origin, Iza is the sole inspiration for lugging my ass to the gym after a long day at work. Following her on Instagram is like getting a stream of what I wished my body looked like all day long. Her Pilates regiment looks like some weird extortionist’s training but she does it religiously, suspending from bars and ropes. Plus, she’s fancy. Ever see her on the red carpet? Her legs as long as infinity. She killed it in Cannes this month, too. Her model street style is kinda sweet, too, with Valentino rockstud flats and Cartier bracelets (goddamn this woman).

She’s modelled the runways of the world, used to be a Victoria’s Secret Angel and apparently, doesn’t shave her legs. I can forgive her, though. Can you?

Just Cavalli FW 2013. I call this collection Roberto’s Inferno.

Just Cavalli FW13 show is happening RIGHT NOW. And tune in on Saturday morning for Roberto Cavalli FW 2013! In bocca al lupo.

Part man, part eurotrash. Roberto Cavalli is one of those industry veterans that has never really had to change much of himself in order to stay relevant. He is somehow always anachronistic when it comes to the current fashion trends. He is just Cavalli, always and forever. Senza fine.

Imagine my delight when I flipped open the latest issue of Harper’s Bazaar and found his sunglass-shielded eyes staring up at me? The magazine chose the Italian designer for “MY LIST” – a day in the life of the industry’s most interesting players. Look out for Carine Roitfeld in the Fashion Issue. It’s one of my fave columns, needless to say.

So what did HB have to say about Cavalli (or what did Cavalli have to say about himself?)

Nicole Richie in June 2012 GLAMOUR magazine. Image source Just Jared.com

Famous for being famous, Nicole Richie is what I like to call  ’American eurotrash’. She’s lived in the lap of luxury her whole life, adopted at age 3 by Lionel Richie and spoiled since. Former besties with Paris Hilton and had a token anorexia phase. Magazines urge us to dress like her, and now she incidentally has her own clothing line just like everybody else. But don’t let the celeb cliche trajectory fool you. Nicole stands out. She’s surprisingly very beautiful and with the right amount of effort, could pretend to be iconic at the very least. Any girl who owns a red Chanel 2.55 flap bag and a Givenchy Nightingale is OK in my books.

Photography by JR Bernstein

So a few weeks ago I was asked to participate in a trend challenge for FLARE Magazine. Check out my entry here! Being Eurotrash and all, I spiced up the run of the mill sporty look with some luxe accessories. Ipso facto, the luxe sport trend everyone is trying to emulate with their high heels and mesh on mesh on mesh. What I found out in putting together my look for the shoot was um, 90% of my wardrobe falls under the luxe sport aesthetic. Tailored jackets, zipper hoodies, harem pants, mesh tops and shoes, designer sweats, vests, tights.

So I really have to thank FLARE for helping me discover the true luxe sporty girl within….

Check out the rest of the photos we shot that afternoon for the trend challenge. A huge thank you to photographer, JR Bernstein, for collaborating with me and making me look good. You can find more of his captures of life on his website www.jrbernstein.com

Tara Gill in FLARE magazine, July 2011.

One of Canada’s hottest models, Tara Gill, is the epitome of Eurotrash in last summer’s shoot for FLARE magazine. Giles Deacon shades, Marc Jacobs knit dress and a PS1 bag have never looked so sunkissed. First off, a multicoloured knit pattern is patently Eurotrash especially in Forte dei Marmi – one of Italy’s recherché beach destinations – and most especially if you stay at The Principe hotel.

Next up, faceshields (aka sunglasses) by Giles Deacon will ward off paparazzi, or conversely, attract them. The coloured bag is a sign of chic. Colours are always difficult to master; the unlearned usually just stick to black. This stylist knew what a crocodile green leather PS1 and raunchy red long fingernails could do for a girl. And did they ever do it for Miss Gill.
