Bright-eyed, bright-lips and a radiant smile that doesn’t flinch under pressure, Caitlin Power is the woman of the hour. Her fast-forward path to success is blazing the trail for androgynous womenswear and this season, she proffered her winning aesthetic to menswear. “I’ve always been inspired by men’s shape and tailoring. I felt now was the time. I mean, I wanted to do it last season but I think it was better that I came out with a strong womenswear collection first, to show Toronto what I can do. Now it’s about honing my craft”.

Pink Tartan opened with a video that paid homage to the French New Wave crime director, Jean-Luc Godard and his would-be gangster flick, Breathless. The model, much like Jean Seberg in black and white and a striped sweater, organizes her yellowed paperbacks before leaving her apartment in a trench coat, packing a 9mm. Minutes later, down the runway, came not the heroine of a Parisian art film from 1958 – but a sophisticated femme fatale of the future. Kim Newport-Mimran, for all the success and accolade she’s received as a Canadian designer, showed just why she’s so prolific. Kim never, ever, gets lazy. She pushes her collections to be the best they can and wows the crowd each season. This season, she surpassed all previous achievements.
Outerwear is a Canadian runway favourite – with more than half of the year spent in jackets, coats and down filled bombers, Rudsak makes dressing for the colder months something Canadians can look forward to. This season’s Fall/Winter collection showcased mixed fabrics and textures, with pops of neutral colours alongside the stalwart black attributed to the Rudsak name. “I think the technology has evolved. It’s easier to mix different fabrics and different hardwares onto the basic outerwear garment. I think people want that – as long as it’s not too much”, says Asatoorian backstage after the show.
TweetFor the second consecutive season, Procter & Gamble, Brill Communications and The Ritz Carlton teamed up to bring home international names in the fashion industry to show their world-famous collections to a small audience in Toronto. This season London fashion week mainstay and Central Saint Martins’ graduate, Jean-Pierre Braganza, presented his Fall Winter 2012 collection he says was inspired by Mandelbrot fractal geometry patterns, the artemisia plant and anachronism.

I had been looking forward to Thursday, Day 4, all week. Firstly, Caitlin Power revealed her FW2012 collection with a special surprise: menswear! Yes, even you stylish boys can get in on her futuristic, structured aesthetic. Secondly, I had planned to wear the Ostrich feather skirt by BLAQUE LABEL, with the black sheer bodysuit and Jeremy Scott x Linda Farrow wing sunglasses all from REmix Clothing Co. The perfect addition to my outfit (aside from the infamous sock bun!), was the deep red Florence bag by Nella Bella. I’m so happy that Tarek and his team gave me this bag to wear to Fashion Week – it was like a cherry on top. Its got all these neat compartments (something NB bags are well known for) that made it so easy for me to have all my essentials right at my fingertips. I felt like a pretty princess all day long. What do you guys think of my outfit?

FINALLY! I get to walk the walk with my YSL Tribtoos! I even tripped and face planted the floor on my way from the media lounge to the runway! I’m OK, I didn’t bruise anything – not even my ego! Guys, it was everything I’ve ever wanted in my whole life: to fall from the heights of a Tribtoo heel. I liked pairing the nude heel with printed jungle pants and a NYC printed extra-long tank. The floral sunglasses may have been a bit much but, what the heck, right? It’s fashion week! Also appearing in my outfit, my coral red Gucci Jackie bag. She was filled to the brim yesterday as I had to make a quick switch from Fashion bitch to Black Keys lady when the sun went down. I had my $3 value village sneakers tucked in there nicely for just the occasion.

I was so happy to be reunited with an old friend in the industry, Brendan, on Tuesday. We decided for old time’s sake to do a mini shoot of my outfit that day. Also, if you haven’t read Nathalie Atkinson’s article in today’s National Post, check it out: It can get catty on the catwalk. Yours truly has an honourable mention! And a special thanks to Remix Clothing Co for styling me with pieces from their store. To purchase what I wore to fashion week just contact Salem at Remix Clothing Co. (remixclothingcompany@gmail.com). And for all my official reviews check Dress To Kill Magazine. phew. ok, now i’m done!

So unfortunately the WIFI at the tents isn’t as great as we all expected. One casualty since the dismissal of LGFW. On the other hand, at least we HAVE a media lounge. Here’s a photo of Eurotrash and Salem Moussallam, owner of REMIX CLOTHING CO who, as you all know, provided me with all my gorgeous outfits this season! yay!

Most of you know by now that REmix Clothing Company has graciously provided me with outfits for the entire run of fashion week. So thankful to Salem and his crew for styling Eurotrash! Last night was opening night. I wore a Leidi Daley sheer tunic in grey with a gorgeous black cotton cape by Complex Geometries. The shoes are my own by Dolce Vita with a chunky plastic heel that I’m so happy came back in style (I’ve had them for over 4 years!). Overall I couldn’t be happier with the set up at the tents; media finally has our own private entrance adjacent to the private media lounge. *cheers and applause* Plus my greatest friend in the biz is here in town from Montreal, Miss SLY – she’ll be running a special edition of FASHION UNFOLD live from the tents today at 1pm. Be sure to tune in as it’s always an interesting debate. Last time around we even got Bryan Boy to participate! (Cuz yours truly egged him on…).
TweetMinutes before getting kicked out of the Amanda Lew Kee fashion show, this is what I wore to the event. I wanted to emulate the designer’s proclivity for sheer fabrics and blue. Besides, fashion is a game of dress-up! And you’ll never believe how that blue floral wrap skirt resurfaced – it’s part of a beach cover up my mom used to wear in her 20s. If there’s one thing I can’t stop doing, it’s scrounging around my mom’s closet until I find just the right item. I envision it styled up-to-date with a certain shoe, or a certain jacket, and voila – it’s a fashion lenten miracle! Incidentally, if you’re still wondering why I never got to debut my outfit at ALK’s show you should probably click on this link: An open letter to Amanda Lew Kee and her PR company.
PS. Thanks to the hundreds of people who read what I had to say and patted me on the back for it. It’s nice to know I’m not the cheese that stands alone
