Fashion Week is ostensibly the most wonderful time of year, and having great girls to hang out with in between the shows makes everything worth while. Here I am with MT Meikle, Irene Kim and Vanessa Cioffi, the ladies behind the styling authority, La Closette. We decided to take in some of the sights outside the runway room, namely popcorn and prosecco. Having a moment of fashionable bliss.
Only my friend-cum-personal-shopper, Irene Kim, knows my plight this season when it comes to finding the quintessential black ankle bootie with a stacked heel, just shy of mid-calf length a la Daria Werbowy for Celine. Well, I originally found the perfect pair on the first try – except to my detriment they were polyester from Zara. Pretty from afar, but far from leather. Who in their right mind would spend $89 on polyester boots? Not me. Not ever.
Countless pairs later – and a single left boot in size 7 at Aldo (to whoever has the right boot, that Cinderella shit ain’t funny) – this morning I finally found a pair that are equal to the Zara pair in appearance and greater in quality. Following basic logic and the story of my life, they are greater in price, too. But I can’t stop picturing these with everything I own, specifically that pair of waxed denim black jeans that have yet to be purchased however exist in my subconscious wardrobe under the category: MUST-HAVE. I’ll shelve these boots in there, too.
What I mean to say is, Jane Birkin pre-1990s feminist with Elton John specs. That she carried the most famous bag in the world, named after her, only years after style had left every bone in her body is a paradox we shall never understand. Would the Birkin bag replace the straw basket in photographs of her alongside Serge Gainsbourg – perfection.
