Wearing exclusive Smythe x eLUXE tuxedo blazer; $595 CAD.

I must preface this post with an admission. I’m not much of an online shopper, in that, I’m always a bit nervous about purchasing something I haven’t seen or touched before. Which, I believe, is completely normal. However, you won’t find an e-commerce enthusiast who’s as passionate about the changing landscape of consumerism as I am. Needless to say, I had a 15 minute jumping-on-the-bed-athon when eLUXE invited me to peruse their headquarters here in Toronto and get the full personal shopping experience with their lead personal stylist, Jennifer McConville. I brought along my friend, photographer, JR Bernstein, to capture it all with his trusty Fujifilm camera.  Read the rest of this entry »

La femme E. The ‘E’ stands for Erotique, Eurotrash and Elena.

Somewhere in the Lower East Side on a cold Monday night, my last cold night in New York City before flying back home, I met with designer, Elena V, for Tapas and wine. Our european sensibilities sparked a fast friendship, and sooner than later, we were chatting fervently about men, sex, and lingerie.

“A real woman has to be a temptress,” says Elena, when I ask her about the men in her life – one who flew halfway across the world in his private speedjet just to bring her a bag of Bulgari jewels while she lunched with a friend. She kept the jewels and sent him home – he was hooked. Sounds like the making of a best-selling “how-to” book for dating. So we thought, why not turn it into a blog?

Fashion is asexual insofar as it is inexpensive. And what’s sexier than fashionable lingerie? Drooling over the La Perla window displays later that night in the meatpacking district we decided to share dating stories, tips and secrets with fashionable women – whether you’re in New York, Paris, Toronto or a private speedjet ride away.

For the occasion, Elena has designed an exclusive capsule collection in Italian silk: tops with matching briefs, and lingerie travel bag. La femme E intimate sets will accompany our blog posts and you can purchase them directly online. They’ll also be available to purchase at Elena V’s fashion show during NYFW.

La femme E project launches during New York Fashion Week at Elena V’s FW2013-2014 show on Friday, Feb 8th, at the Ukrainian Museum (222 East 6 St, New York NY 10003).

In celebration of Men’s fashion week (and look at the CANALI dandies exhibit A)…. let’s re-read an article I wrote last week for Toronto Standard.

There’s something distinctly melancholic about an unaffected, well-dressed man and his affected copycat– in short, every guy I know. This revelation came to me while watching the movie trailer for Baz Luhrman’s Gatsby, in which Leo DiCaprio plays a “man in the cool beautiful shirts” with a losing hand in life and love. The dapper dude who doesn’t get the girl. Sound familiar?

Toronto native, Sarah Miles, is the kind of girl who is effortlessly fashionable. She’s urban, gritty and would fit in with New York City’s Dumbo district. She’s the token LABEL clothing girl; a model, she’s worked in PR, casting and cataloguing vintage. Her dream is to produce fashion shows. You can find her whipping her hair back and forth on the weekend at some invite-only party or conversely, looking nonchalant at a walk-in bar in the Junction. You’re apt to quickly call her a city girl; in this Bloggertorial, she is everything but.

A few months ago the lovely people at Shoppalu.com sent me an email to say “HEY!” and let me pick out some pretty little things from their site to wear to LG Fashion Week. It was hard to choose from all the delicious vintage goods but I narrowed it down to a crochet top and white Woodsward’s ballet flats. Hand delivered over Starbucks pumpkin spice lattes, I couldn’t wait to showcase these pieces! The Vancouver-Toronto team of just a bunch of it-girls selling vintage have won over  my heart.
