It’s the most wonderful time of the year for everything but my skin. The other day I thought it a genius idea to wear a crop top sweater bearing my ostensible six-pack when halfway through the day flakes of dry skin started to gather around my waistline. Um, no. That is not something I am about to be having, yet again this winter. It seems like the older I get, the drier my skin gets – and the more I have the urge to just squeeze out 40 tubes of body lotion into my bathtub and jump in.
One year ago the wonderful ladies at The White Room Spa Lounge converted me to Dermalogica skincare. I came to them with combination skin – dry patches (not even cold cream could cure) and acne prone zones, scars and a few laugh lines. Oh, and my crow’s feet. Since using my customized Dermalogica routine, my skin has improved dramatically. I am now one of those girls that gets the, “you have such great skin,” compliment. One tip I learned from The White Room: “Most sun damage is actually caused in the colder months.” So, I wear my SPF religiously even when baby, it’s cold outside.
For more tips, Annet King, Global Education Director at Dermalogica, talks about what you can do to keep your skin hydrated during the winter:
But my body continues to suffer. I think I speak for a lot of women out there who abide by the face-over-body credo, wherein we spend hundreds of dollars on face creams but neglect the skin on our bodies. It’s like washing your car and only waxing the front bumper. I mean, yeah, I’ll throw on some moisturizer and shave my legs, but examine my left thigh with a fine tooth comb like I do the left side of my nose? Not a chance.
Maybe it’s because my boyfriend has softer skin than me, but this winter I refuse to hide dry skin under wool socks and jeggings. I’m making the attempt to stay soft and supple all over. Naturally, I enlisted Dermalogica to do all the hard work. One product that I absolutely LOVE are the Hydro-Active Mineral Salts – use as a bath soak or a body scrub for knees and elbows. And most importantly, the Dermalogica Body Hydrating Cream that you’re supposed to apply in sweeping motions all over your body. It’s my favourite part of the routine – and most rewarding because your skin feels SO smooth afterwards. Well, the most rewarding is my boyfriend’s face when he feels my soft skin and reluctantly admits, it’s JUST AS SOFT AS HIS. (It’s a win-win situation).
Speaking of winning, I’m giving one lucky reader a Dermalogica Winter Survival Kit! The giveaway runs from today, Thursday, November 28th to next Friday, December 6th and is open to readers in the GTA. Good luck!
