Step away from the Walden Galleria, even for just an afternoon. While I visited Buffalo for Mercedes-Benz of Buffalo Fashion Week, I got to check out some of the cool, independent boutiques in town, proving that going south of the border for more than a slick deal on an Abercrombie sweater is something you should consider.

My favourite store was Anna Grace, which reminded me a lot of Poppy in NYC (Canadian owned boutique in NoLiTa). It’s the kind of place you’ll find brands like Funktional, Left on Houston, Velvet, Blank [NYC] and Canada’s Matt & Natt. Anna Grace has a mix of clothing and add-ons – I especially was intrigued by the lip scrub by Sara Happ – the Brown Sugar flavour was heavenly. From what I gleaned, it’s like an exfoliation for your lips, which I could totally use since I’m usually the one who forgets her chapstick at home, and my lips have been paying for it.

I also fell in love with their collection of David Aubrey jewellery and then some. The gold plate with turquoise rhinestone statement piece is the kind of necklace that can transition into next Spring, with all the flat-plated jewellery at Lanvin SS2013, it’s a smart, farsighted buy.
