Chiara Ferragni is the creator of The Blonde Salad, one of the hottest style blogs in the world right now. Unlike most fashion bloggers though, she doesn’t dress like she’s going to slit her wrists or is in denial about what century we’re in. That is to say if you go to LOOKBOOK.nu, however unique everyone claims to be on there, it’s basically a melting pot for that inde hipster look, that “i-look-mildy-depressed-in-Balmain-and-occasionally-my-grandma’s-Mary-Janes” aesthetic. How Chiara has had success on LOOKBOOK without assimilating the token aesthetic the site features is a mystery. Well, maybe not an insoluble mystery… Her style is that of a eurotrash girl – the kind you’d see on the streets of florence or in a cafe in Milan; it’s that sweet combination of classic, almost grown-up, attire with a youthful edge – like a ripped pair of abercrombie shorts with a hermes silk scarf or a mickey mouse t-shirt underneath a crisp wool blazer.
Slowly but surely, we’re beginning to understand what it means to be eurotrash.
